Carbon fiber faces
Exposed, textured carbon fiber face that grabs the ball. This is what spin looks like on a serious paddle.
"Raw" carbon means the woven texture of the face (usually T700) is exposed. No paint, no smooth coating. That texture, plus the dwell time carbon gives you naturally, is where modern spin comes from.
The catch: texture wears. Spray-on grit coatings can lose their bite in weeks; raw weave and peel-ply textures hold up far longer. That is why we weight long-term reviewer reports so heavily. A paddle that is spinny in week one and bald by week six should be ranked that way.
