Thrive Ignite Elongated Review

Thrive Ignite Elongated pickleball paddle
89/100
Excellent

Consensus score

The Ignite Hybrid was Thrive's proof that a foam paddle could feel like a good honeycomb build. The Elongated is the same recipe with a longer lever: 16.5 inches of reach, 57.1 MPH of measured drive velocity (the most in the Ignite line), and the series' best spin number. The clever part is that the power is activated, not always on. The TPE foam ring loads like a diving board, so dinks stay calm and drives get violent. It is the rare elongated power paddle that does not feel like swinging a 2x4.

The consensus verdict

Best for

Singles players and baseline drivers who want maximum reach and plow-through with a soft, connected feel instead of the stiff, hollow response most elongated power paddles serve up.

Not for

Players who want free power on compact swings. You have to swing this paddle to unlock it, and quick counters do not come as easily as they do on instant-pop paddles.

Consensus 89/100 · Excellent

Weighted from Pickleball Effect's full lab review (4.7/5, 57.1 MPH power, 2,124 RPM spin, Tier 2 grit durability), The Kitchen's scored testing (Power 89, Spin 98), Johnkew's lab data (KewCOR 0.415, firepower 82/100, elite spin), and measured first-impressions coverage. As Tommy Boy's dad would say, you can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking your head up a bull's ass, but we would rather take the labs' word for it.

What reviewers agree on

Strengths

  • The hardest-hitting Ignite. 57.1 MPH of measured drive velocity sits in the 94th percentile, the most in the series. Elongated leverage feeds straight into a design that already rewards swing speed, and serves and drives get heavier without the kitchen game getting harder.
  • Activated power, not instant pop. The signature trait of the whole line: slow swings stay controlled, hard swings stiffen the paddle and unlock more. Pop measures the same as the Hybrid, so you get the firepower without the touch-management tax at the net.
  • Elite spin on a durable grit. 2,124 RPM is the best spin number in the series, and the Clear Fusion coating held 90% of its roughness in lab wear testing, well above the raw-carbon average. One lab rated it Tier 2, another Tier 3; either way it outlasts plain raw carbon.
  • Forgiving for an elongated. A 6.25 twist weight beats the 6.02 shape average, so off-center hits hold up better than the category usually allows. It is still a step down from the Hybrid's 6.67, but this is not the usual elongated forgiveness penalty.
  • Pick your exact swing weight. Thrive hand-measures every paddle and lets you choose your swing weight when you order, with a handwritten spec card in the box. Nobody else at $219.99 does this.

Weaknesses & caveats

  • You have to swing it. Quick counters and flicks do not come free on this paddle. If your game runs on compact-swing pop, an instant-pop foam paddle will feel easier.
  • The labs disagree on feel. Pickleball Effect places it in the soft/dense quadrant, a connected alternative to stiff elongated paddles. Johnkew's feel mapping plots both elongated Ignites toward stiff/hollow Gen-4 foam. Same paddle, different read: demo it if feel is your deciding factor.
  • Not the Hybrid's sweet spot. The twist weight is good for an elongated but it is a real step down from the Hybrid, so mishits cost you more here. Kitchen-first doubles players should look at the Hybrid instead.
